Hungarian-Iranian joint economic committee could meet as soon as Feb

Asre bazar- A Hungarian-Iranian joint intergovernmental economic committee could be established as early as the beginning of February, House Speaker László Kövér said on Sunday, on the last day of an official visit to Tehran, according to Hungarian news agency MTI.

    Reportimg "Asre Bazar", an economic cooperation agreement that will clear the way for the establishment of the committee is expected to be ratified by the Iranian Parliament within days, Kövér said. A double-taxation avoidance agreement between the two countries could also be reached soon, he added.

    Kövér noted that Magyar Eximbank and the Export Development Bank of Iran had signed a declaration of intent on cooperation in Budapest late in October. Preparations for a jointly funded-project, a waste processing and sewage treatment plant in the Iranian city of Yazd, are already underway, he added. 

    Kövér held talks on Sunday with Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayebnia, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif and the mayor of Tehran Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Kövér met with Iranian House Speaker Ali Larijani and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday. 

    Kövér said he and his Iranian hosts had agreed that there are real opportunities for Hungarian investors in railway construction, water management, environmental protection, waste processing, pharmaceuticals and automotive production in Iran. 

    Hungary and Iran are expected to sign an agreement on the healthcare industry and a declaration of intent on nuclear cooperation in the near future, he added.
